Saudi Arabia

Saudi Arabia

Heading for the youngest destination

If its name is not yet on most travelers' lists, now is the time to enter this destination long closed to tourism.

Yes, this hitherto ultra-closed and rigorist country can now be visited. Far from being a monotonous, unattractive desert, this vast destination is surprising, and this time in a good way. Without wishing to imitate Dubai, Arabia is exploring a new path: rapidly developing a heritage still partly buried in the sands, opening eco-resorts and hosting exploration cruises on its incredible Red Sea archipelagos. The landscapes are often different and breathtaking. Saudi Arabia, a destination sure to please the adventurous and contemplative.

Saudi Arabia

Ideal for

Seaside, cultural, outdoor sports, water sports.

Did you know?

That in the Aseer mountain region, men wear wreaths of flowers, each clan having its own favorite varieties.

The must-haves

  1. Discover Riyadh, the capital, which alternates traditional and ultra-contemporary aspects.
  2. Stay in the Al Ula region, a mountain oasis nestled in the north-western mountains. And visit the ancient cities (Hegra, Dadane...) recently discovered in the sands and rock-cut tombs as in Petra.
  3. Dive into the warm, unspoilt, translucent waters of the Red Sea.
  4. Hiking in Wadi Ad-Disah, a magnificent canyon oasis.
  5. Stroll through the old quarter of Al Balad in Jeddah,
  6. Take a trip to Edge of the World to discover its breathtaking cliffs.

Between us

  1. Even if there's still a long way to go, the prohibitions are no longer so numerous: in just a few years, new freedoms have emerged and the country has opened up to visitors.
  2. You'll come across them in restaurants and hotels, and not just as customers: Saudi women now have the right to work and not to wear the veil.
  3. Good roads and huge distances: car rental is the best way to visit the country on your own.
  4. Qahwa‘, a bitter-tasting coffee, is the national drink, which Saudis sip all day long. A coffee maker is available in the lobby of every hotel.
  5. It's all new too: in winter, the country vibrates to the rhythm of festivals like Al Ula, 3 months of concerts, events of all kinds and art exhibitions.

When to go?

To avoid extreme summer temperatures, we recommend traveling from October to April.

Packing

From May to October, it's -very- hot. Light fabrics and loose-fitting clothes are a must. Keep your head covered and hydrated (thermo flask). From November to April, it's a good idea to layer up: while it's warm at midday, mornings and evenings can be chilly and even freezing, especially at higher altitudes. As a general rule, it's advisable to always wear clothing that covers the shoulders and knees, especially for women.
