Australia

Land of extremes

Here's a mythical destination that conjures up so many incredible images in our minds. Australia is a large-scale Eldorado that evokes an ideal art of living. A once-in-a-lifetime discovery.

Australia, an island-continent where nature has had a field day. Here, everything is truly different: endemic flora and fauna, bizarre geological formations unique in the world, dream beaches to compensate for the harshness of the red desert. Yes, a trip to the end of the world seems to take us to another world. Where the locals also play it cool in their own way. Relaxed and warm, Australians live by the motto ‘no worries’. They're also said to have a great sense of humor, but above all they're sports fans.

Ideal for

Trekking, water sports, diving, golf, cultural, safari, honeymoon, beach holidays, language courses, wine tourism.

Did you know?

At the entrances to many stores, children are invited to help themselves to a free fruit snack while their parents do their shopping.

The must-haves

  1. Sail to the Great Barrier Reef and, why not, discover it up close by diving.
  2. Explore the vast red deserts of the interior and soak up the culture of the outback.
  3. Stop off in Sydney and Melbourne, renowned for its art scene and gastronomy.
  4. Hiking in Queensland's Daintree Rainforest Nature Park, believed to be the oldest on the planet.
  5. Swimming on some of the most beautiful beaches on the planet, such as the White Sunday Islands.
  6. Discover aboriginal culture.
  7. Push on to Tasmania, the end of the world at the end of the world, where 30% of the land is protected.

Between us

  1. It's also called ‘Barbie’: in Australia, barbecuing is a religion. They're everywhere in public places. If you're invited, remember to bring your own alcoholic beverages.
  2. English is spoken in Australia, of course, but locals tend to abbreviate and contact words and expressions. For example, ‘breakfast’ becomes ‘breakie’.
  3. It's not a good time to be a smoker in Australia. In fact, smoking is banned on the beaches.
  4. The country is so vast that you can take a plane just as you would a train. Another option: a classic car or a 4×4 that allows you to explore the interior.
  5. BYO stands for «Bring Your Own»... alcohol: restaurants displaying these 3 letters are not licensed to sell alcohol, but you can bring your own bottle.

When to go?

Australia's huge variety of climates means you can travel all year round. From December to March, for example, you can avoid the heat that permeates central and northern Australia. Between September and November and March and May, almost the entire country is ideal for visiting.

Packing

In Australia, the seasons are reversed and Christmas is celebrated on the beach. Pack clothes for different situations: light, warmer, comfortable, for hiking, the desert, the rainforest. And, of course, sun protection and a swimsuit. Coats and fleeces in winter, especially in the south and in Tasmania.
