Colombia

Dance and coffee

The first thing that surprises the traveler who arrives in Colombia is the kindness and unfailing hospitality of the population. Smiling, proud to see foreigners return to explore their country, Colombians have resolutely turned the page on the troubled years. Then comes the discovery of a magnificent land.

Even if Colombia doesn't boast a single monument or flagship site, in the end it's the range and variety of discoveries made here that will make travelers say they've had an unforgettable stay. For Colombia is a real land of contrasts, a term so often misused but which applies without question to this little-known destination. From the perched high plateaus of the Andes to the coffee fields, the Cocora valley bristling with immense palm trees, the Amazon jungle, the high glacier-covered peaks, the strange ‘paramo’ with its tundra-like ecosystem, the islands bristling with coconut palms, the Amerindian archaeological sites and the colonial cities, Colombia offers a dizzying diversity of landscapes and points of interest.

  5. Go whale watching on the Pacific coast.

Between us

  1. Eating and dancing: in Colombia, one usually goes hand in hand with the other. Food is varied, thanks to the country's many climates.
  2. We're crazy about mochilas, ultra-colourful bags woven by the Arhuacos of Santa Marta's Sierra Nevada, and of course hammocks, Colombian ponchos (ruanas) and emeralds, Colombia being 1 of the world's most beautiful countries.er world producer.
  3. There's no escaping the temptation to savour a tinto, small cup of black coffee.
  4. The Amazon covers a large part of the territory, where you can swim with freshwater dolphins, fish for piranhas or watch birds and alligators.

When to go?

All year round, although during the dry season (December to March), the climate is milder and temperatures milder.

Packing

Because of the variety of its climates, you'll need to remember to pack light clothing as well as a raincoat and something to cover up in higher altitudes and on cooler evenings. And a good mosquito repellent if you're staying on the Pacific coast.
