Greece

Life in blue and white

Dreamy islands, ancient cities, blue seas, legendary hospitality... Whether popular or little-known, Greece has something for everyone.

If Greece is one of the cradles of Western civilization, it is far from content to be a museum of antiquity. Designers, architects and young craftsmen are taking part in a new dynamic that does not deny its roots. On a map, the country may look small, but it's so fragmented, criss-crossed by mountains and scattered across a myriad of small islands, that you'll never cease to be amazed by its incredible diversity. All under a sky so blue you'll want to swim in it. Add to this the hospitality of the Greek people («philoxenia»), their art of embellishing their villages and their tasty cuisine, and a trip to Greece is bound to be a great success.

Ideal for

Beach breaks, cooking classes, shopping, golf, water sports, trekking.

Did you know?

In Greece, we attach little importance to the birthday, but much more to the day associated with the first name.

The must-haves

  1. Discover mythical ancient sites such as Delphi, Epidaurus and Olympia.
  2. Stay in Athens, visit the Acropolis and its archaeological museum.
  3. Climbing the monasteries of Meteora.
  4. Cruise from island to island, ending in the Santorini caldera, where you can stay in a cave-house (skafta).
  5. Hiking in the mountains of Arcadia.
  6. Explore the Samaria Gorge in Crete.

Between us

  1. If you're visiting a religious site, you'll need to be decently dressed, and often clothes are provided at the entrance to cover bare parts of the body.
  2. Greeks rarely shake hands, preferring to pat each other on the shoulder.
  3. In Greece, there are many means of transport: ferries and boats between the islands, by car or rather scooter to wander from village to village, or on foot to inhale the scents of the countryside.
  4. Try to attend religious festivals, which are often open to all.
  5. Greece is a country of organized chaos: cars parked anywhere, crosswalks and traffic lights disregarded, wildcat strikes and delays. Above all, stay calm, everything always works out.

When to go?

From spring to autumn, giving priority to the off-seasons to avoid the crowds. In August, the wind (meltemi) can blow very hard over the Cyclades.

Packing

Light clothing if you're traveling in summer, and wind protection if you're going to the islands.
