Greenland

Icebergs and polar bears

Nine-tenths covered by a thick ice cap, Greenland is one of our planet's last lands of adventure.

An immense, icy and seemingly inhospitable land, Greenland has never ceased to fascinate explorers, scientists and now, at last, tourists. The world's largest island, covering more than two million km2, paradoxically bears the name of Greenland, given to it by the first Viking colonizers from Iceland. A trip to Greenland will be a fabulous and unforgettable experience, not only for the extraordinary splendor of nature delivered here in its raw state, but also for the hospitality of its inhabitants.

Ideal for

Trekking, cultural, photo, adventure, safari, fishing, cruises.

Did you know?

That the Ilulissat glacier carries the equivalent of New York City's annual water consumption every day.

The must-haves

  1. Be dazzled by the pristine beauty of glaciers and flower-filled valleys in early summer.
  2. Follow in the footsteps of the Vikings by visiting the ruins of their ancient farms.
  3. Take a cruise and explore the majestic fjords of the island's south.
  4. Bathe in the hot springs on Disko Island and take a dogsled ride, even in summer.
  5. Whale watching by kayak or boat.

Between us

  1. Although it has Danish status, Greenland is not part of the European Union, but of the Schengen area.
  2. Unlike the west coast, where most of the population lives, the east coast remains isolated and little visited. This is your guarantee of an even more authentic Greenland.
  3. Greenland is the world's largest national park, and home to almost every species of Arctic wildlife.
  4. Departing from Sisimiut, the Arctic Circle Trail is one of the world's most famous treks. It takes around ten days to complete.
  5. There are virtually no roads in Greenland, so there's no way to get between villages by car. Boat, helicopter or plane are the best alternatives.

When to go?

June to September, but if possible in August to avoid mosquitoes. In winter, to observe the northern lights (between October and March).

Packing

Warm clothing and fleece for all seasons. Waterproof lined boots and anorak are a must. Glacier goggles and sun protection because of reverberation.
