Israel

Rendezvous on thrice-holy ground

A melting pot of religions and civilizations, Israel promises breathtaking landscapes, unique encounters and poignant discoveries. A journey both out of time and into the heart of modernity.

Israel is a destination that is not only close by, but also highly exotic. This thrice-holy land has plenty to offer, and is sure to satisfy even the most demanding traveler. First and foremost, a trip here allows you to turn your back on prejudice. But above all, it's a magnificent country, with countless facets, sometimes disconcerting but fiercely endearing. Alongside the many archaeological remains left by the many invaders of this coveted land, the country is dotted with modern cities and golden beaches. A promised land for Jews, Israel could be just as much for vacationers seeking new experiences.

Ideal for

Seaside, cultural, shopping, water sports, scuba diving, pilgrimage, trekking.

Did you know?

That the shore of the Dead Sea is the lowest emerged point on the planet, at -400 m. And that its salinity is 5 to 6 times higher than that of the ocean.

The must-haves

  1. Climb the Massada fortress at sunrise, then take a dip in the Dead Sea.
  2. Visit the Yad Vashem Holocaust memorial.
  3. Visit the archaeological site of Caesarea, capital of King Herod.
  4. Admire the hundreds of Bauhaus buildings in Tel Aviv.
  5. Discover Jerusalem, one of the world's most fascinating cities, at your own pace.

Between us

  1. Because of their diverse backgrounds, many Israelis speak foreign languages and will spontaneously strike up a conversation if they hear you speak one.
  2. To visit and explore Tel Aviv, rent a bike, as all the local youth do, at one of the stations scattered around the city.
  3. Take a detour 30 km from Tel Aviv to Neve Shalom («oasis of peace»), a village built jointly by Jews and Arabs.
  4. Israel is an ecotourism paradise, with almost 300 national parks and reserves and a dense network of hiking trails.

When to go?

April-May and September-November. Summer if you like it hotter. All year round on the shores of the Red Sea.

Packing

Light clothing from May to November, but also a few sweaters if you're staying at altitude or in the desert. And don't forget more revealing clothing for visits to religious sites. Eilat's climate remains warm all year round.
