Luxembourg

A little marvel

The Grand Duchy of Luxembourg is so close to us, it's sometimes misunderstood, but it has plenty to surprise us. With its Unesco heritage sites, tempting addresses and cultural and leisure activities, we bet you'll never look at this little country the same way again!

Many begin their stay in the capital, where ancient fortress ramparts contrast with modern architecture. Often mistakenly regarded as a simple business city where nothing happens after dark, Luxembourg City is undoubtedly one of Europe's most astonishing capitals, with residents from 170 countries, making it one of the most cosmopolitan cities in the world. But this small country is rich and varied on the outside too, offering vineyards, deep forests and plenty of castles and museums to discover.

That this small country boasts nine sites listed and classified by Unesco.

The must-haves

1. Discover the different facets of Luxembourg City: the old part, with its cobbled streets and corniche path, the Grund district at the bottom of the valley, its bars and restaurants, not forgetting Neumünster Abbey.

2. Venture into the casemates of the Bock, a network of kilometers of galleries dug into the cliff face.

3. Witness the frenzy of the dancing procession in Echternach on Whit Tuesday.

4. Hiking in Luxembourg's famous «Little Switzerland», in the Mullerthal.

5. Enjoy the pleasures of the Mondorf-les-Bains thermal baths.

6. Visit one of the countless castles in this small country, including Vianden and Bourscheid.

Luxembourg

Between us

1. As of 2020, all modes of public transport - buses, trains and the streetcar recently inaugurated- are free throughout Luxembourg, for residents and tourists alike.

2. The Grand Duchy of Luxembourg is the ideal destination for hikers: the country boasts one of the densest trail networks in Europe.

3. There is a LuxembourgCard, also in QR Code format. For 1, 2 or 3 days, it opens the doors of more than 80 museums and tourist attractions throughout Luxembourg and gives discounts at other sites.

4. In Luxembourg City, afterwork is an institution, especially vibrant in the Clausen district on the banks of the Alzette.

When to go?

Summer, for the longest, hottest days. But also autumn for the shimmering colors of the forests, and winter for the Christmas markets.

Packing

Light clothing in summer, warmer in winter. Hiking boots will certainly come in handy for an escapade outside the capital. Always bring rain gear, as the country gets quite a bit of rain.
