Maldives

Total letting go

Powdered sand, a turquoise lagoon, lush vegetation, villas on stilts... In the Maldives, the magic of this alchemy works from island to island. Everything you need for a dream holiday, right on the ocean.

«Dhivehi Raajje» is what Maldivians call their country. It means «Kingdom Island». A marine kingdom of 26 atolls stretching over 800 kilometers in the Indian Ocean. A total of 1192 islands, all of which together cover no more than 300 km2! The largest of these, Gan on Laamu, covers just over 5 km2. As for the highest point in the country, it's barely... 3 metres high! All life here takes place in close communion with the ocean. While the Maldives were originally a destination for diving enthusiasts, today you don't need to have webbed feet to experience intense moments and return home with a head full of unforgettable memories.

Ideal for

Seaside breaks, scuba diving, water sports, honeymoon or complete relaxation.

Did you know?

That the gentle word «atoll» is borrowed from the language of the Maldives.

The must-haves

  1. Fly over the atolls and contemplate the paradisiacal landscapes created by the interplay of ocean and coral.
  2. Don't miss out on the pleasures of diving, even without a tank, and explore reefs that are unique in the world.
  3. Visiting an inhabited island is an opportunity to capture the real life of the islanders and their fascinating adaptation to this isolated environment.
  4. Take a dhoni cruise at sunset.
  5. Enjoy Maldivian fish.

Between us

  1. Immaculate sand, translucent waters and a location exactly below the equator combine to make the sun's rays even more powerful here. Sunscreen factor 50 is no exaggeration.
  2. An hour's time difference from Malé is a little trick adopted by several resorts on Ari Atoll to make the most of the sunshine hours.
  3. Unless you're visiting Malé, there's no need for local currency (rufiyaa), as everything in the island hotels can be paid for in dollars or euros.

When to go?

December to April, the dry season. All year round, temperatures hover nicely around 30°C.

Packing

Light clothing, a little more dressy for the evening. More and more hotels are offering guests the option of leaving their shoes in their suitcases and going barefoot, even in restaurants.
