Malta

Malta

The honey-colored archipelago

It's hard not to fall under the spell of this small archipelago bathed in sunshine and light, at the crossroads between East and West.

Located in the heart of the Mediterranean, the Maltese archipelago comprises just three islands: Malta, Gozo and Comino. A destination with a splendid natural environment, but also with a rich and fascinating history. Phoenicians, Carthaginians, Romans, Arabs, Normans, Spanish, French... all have contributed to Maltese culture and left their mark. The greatest influence has been that of the Knights of the Order of St. John. Settled here for several centuries, they left a legacy of unparalleled beauty and concentration. Valletta, one of the world's most beautiful ports, is the nugget.

Ideal for

Seaside, water sports, cultural, language courses, shopping, golf.

Did you know?

That the wooden village in which the Popeye film was shot has remained intact and can be visited like a small amusement park.

The must-haves

  1. Visit Valletta and its many castles, palaces, fortresses, watchtowers, churches and fortifications.
  2. Discover the megalithic monuments of Tarxien and Hagar Qim, absolutely unique in the world. Or the magnificent underground labyrinth in the prehistoric Hypogeum.
  3. Stroll through the fortified town of Mdina, whose history predates that of Valletta.
  4. Gozo's citadel is another must-see, offering breathtaking views over the island.
  5. Take a dip in the blue lagoon of Comino, a magical grotto drenched in phosphorescent colors and home to magnificent flora.

Between us

  1. There are few sandy beaches in Malta and Gozo, but there are bathing areas on the rocky coasts.
  2. Easter, Earth Garden, Summer Carnival, Pageant of the Seas... Malta's ‘festas’ are legion.
  3. Malta is a paradise for water sports: diving, sailing, windsurfing, paragliding, water skiing, kite surfing...
  4. The pleasures of the palate will also find satisfaction in Malta: Italian and Mediterranean gastronomy is second to none. Try Kinnie, a sparkling drink made from bitter oranges and aromatic herbs.

When to go?

Summer lasts seven months in Malta, but if possible avoid July and August, which are very popular with tourists from all over Europe.

Packing

In summer, you'll need lightweight clothing, as well as woollens for those sometimes windy evenings. Take warmer clothes from October onwards. Tennis shoes for walking in rocky areas.
