Morocco is a destination that immediately awakens the imagination, evoking a whirlwind of colors, spices and fragrances.
From Fez to Marrakech, from Tangier to Essaouira, it's easy to immerse yourself in the eternal Morocco of endless souks, cracked earth fortresses, silent palm groves, peaceful riads and artisan stores from another age. Everywhere, history can still be seen in the watermark. For there are few countries where traditions have remained so alive. Whether you're wandering through the alleys of an oasis in the early hours of the morning, in the shade of the mud walls of the medinas during the day, or in the evening when the squares come alive with the arrival of street vendors to the chanting inflections of the muezzin, Morocco offers a permanent culture shock. Vibrant and endearing, this is the Morocco we wish you.
1. Get lost in the medinas and historic souks of imperial cities such as Fez.
2. If you like the blue, opt for a stopover in the village of Chefchaouen (Rif mountains).
3. In the South, stroll through the gardens of oases (such as Fint) or soak up the intense blues of the Jardin Majorelle in Marrakech.
4. Hiking on the most beautiful Atlas trails.
5 Discover the earthen ksour of southern Morocco and push on to the magnificent Dades and Todra gorges, then on to the village of Imilchil, at an altitude of over 2,000 meters.
6. Walking the red dunes of the Moroccan Sahara.
7. Treat yourself to a typical Moroccan meal in a riad or historic house.
1. In Morocco, haggling is a must. The first price offered will often be 3 to 4 higher than the normal price, but you'll have to be cunning and take your time to get it down. Beware of counterfeit goods, too, as customs checks can be tough.
2. The time difference is one hour in summer, but cancels out in winter.
3. Stay alert: if you hear «Balak» shouted in the souks, it's to announce the passage of a donkey or cart. You won't have much time to react.
4. In social situations, avoid talking about certain subjects, especially the king, religion and politics.
5. Moroccans love hospitality: offering tea, sharing soup or a dish is an honor for them if you accept it with respect.
6. Morocco is the first African country to equip itself with a TGV line. It links Casablanca to Tangiers in just over 2 hours.
