Czech Republic

Natural and cultural

With the exception of the romantic city of Prague, which attracts millions of visitors every year, the Czech Republic is still a great mystery to many.

One imagines a country covered in deep forests hiding forgotten castles. It's also known for the elegance of its cut crystal and its spas with their old-fashioned charm. In the villages, the alleyways have kept their traditional wooden houses decorated with folk motifs. In the towns, Baroque blends with Art Nouveau, and the verdigris of the domes meets the ochre of the tiled roofs in astonishing harmony.

Czech Republic

Ideal for

Cultural, river cruises, trekking, spa, golf, outdoor sports, mountaineering, winter sports.

Did you know?

That the Czech Republic has the highest number of castles per inhabitant in the world.

The must-haves

  1. Take a romantic getaway to Prague, the city of a hundred spires, and stroll through the narrow streets between the castle and the old town.
  2. Discover the Czech Switzerland National Park, renowned for its sandstone formations sculpted by erosion.
  3. Visit the imposing Karlštejn Castle, built to house the crown jewels of Bohemia.
  4. Stroll through the medieval village of Cesky Krumlov, nestled in a meander of the Vltava and listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
  5. Indulge in the pleasures of Karlovy Vary (or Karlsbad).
  6. In Prague, treat yourself to a black theater show and end the evening in one of the city's famous 1900s cafés.

Between us

  1. Except in the most touristy areas of Prague, the cost of living is low in the Czech Republic: you can eat lunch for €10 and a little more in the evening.
  2. To take photos inside many sites and monuments, an additional fee must be paid.
  3. The Czechs are the continent's biggest beer drinkers. So it's not surprising that a liter of beer here costs less than a liter of water.
  4. Czechs love soup, which often starts the meal. Don't hesitate, they can be surprising but always delicious.
  5. Forests cover more than a third of the country: join the Czechs' love of hiking and take to the magnificent trails that criss-cross the country.

When to go?

Summer, from May to the end of September. Bear in mind that July and August are busy months in Prague.

Packing

As a continental European country, the Czech Republic has very distinct seasons. So pack light summer clothes and a rain jacket. In winter, opt for warm clothing, layered as the weather changes.
