United Kingdom

50% immutable, 50% alternative

The UK has inspired many new trends around the world. Such a different and atypical destination can only be fascinating.

A certain exoticism just a stone's throw from home. Thirty kilometers by sea, and the uninitiated find themselves in, shall we say, a rather confusing land. Oscillating between conservatism and avant-gardism, the United Kingdom has never really been able to choose sides. Clean houses, picture-perfect countryside and legendary hospitality, this destination is quick to win hearts and make you forget the fickleness of its climate. What's more, the United Kingdom's natural landscapes are often harmonious and ever-changing, with a full palette of greens. And we haven't even mentioned its cities, champions of a rich and innovative culture. It's incredible what there is to discover and experience here.

United Kingdom

Ideal for

Cultural, language courses, shopping, beach breaks, trekking, water sports.

Did you know?

That most English towns have two soccer clubs, one for Catholics and one for Protestants.

The must-haves

  1. Stay in London and soak up its avant-garde atmosphere.
  2. Visit the megalithic site of Stonehenge, whose original purpose is still unknown.
  3. Find the world of Harry Potter in Oxford, Edinburgh... and many other places.
  4. Immerse yourself in the atmosphere of a pub: sit alone and end up conversing with all your neighbors.
  5. Visit some of the world's most beautiful gardens, in Kent or Cornwall for example.
  6. Venture and hike in the Scottish Highlands, then head off to the Hebrides or Orkney Islands.
  7. Take an ancient bath in the magnificent spa town of Bath.

Between us

  1. Museums and exhibitions are very different in the UK. Regularly free (like the British Museum) but also highly interactive and accessible to children. Think about using passes and booking online.
  2. There are free, clean public toilets almost everywhere.
  3. Another British institution: charity stores, often run by volunteers, where you can find everything at low prices.
  4. English cuisine doesn't have a good reputation, but things have improved a lot, and even the daily special at the pub is often a nice surprise.
  5. Never forget, even if you're a pedestrian, that here you take the stairs and drive on the left. You'll soon get the hang of it: the rules of the road and the facilities make it easy enough.

When to go?

April to October, although summer travel is ideal. The Christmas season is also magical, especially in the cities.

Packing

You can experience the weather of several seasons in one day. So always bring rain gear and a windbreaker, layers in case of weather changes and good waterproof shoes (rubber boots). And more technical equipment for exploring Scotland or rural areas.
