The 2026 Guide to Sports and Cultural Events in Tunisia

From festivals that illuminate summer nights to sporting competitions that make the country's heart beat, Tunisia transforms once again this year into a true open-air stage:

TABARKA JAZZ FESTIVAL

July 2-9, 2026

After several years of absence, the Tabarka International Jazz Festival returns in 2026 for its 20th edition. The city will host international artists and young talents at the Théâtre de la Mer. The event will offer a varied program of jazz and world music, in a cultural and friendly atmosphere, confirming Tabarka as a reference musical destination in the Mediterranean.

International Festival of Carthage

July & August 2026

This major event on the artistic and cultural scene takes place in the historic city of Carthage and is a must-see on the Tunisian cultural calendar. It offers a unique experience combining the discovery of the archaeological site with performances that blend traditional heritage and contemporary creations. Created in 1964, it is among the most emblematic festivals in North Africa.

The festival takes place every year in July-August. New dates will be announced soon on the official festival website.

El Jem International Symphonic Music Festival

July 27 to August 7, 2026

Since 1986, this Festival has established itself as an international cultural event. Every year, it draws numerous music lovers to Thysdrus, ancient El Jem, and its prestigious Roman amphitheater, a UNESCO World Heritage site. Those who have had the opportunity to come to El Jem during the Festival have been captivated by the rich fusion between the splendor of the monument and the beauty of the music that envelops it for one month each year.

International Hammamet Festival

July 11 to August 13, 2026

Iconic summer festival organized outdoors in Hammamet. It features music, theater, and dance performances with Tunisian and international artists, in a Mediterranean seaside setting.

ULTRA MIRAGE

October 3, 2026

The Ultra Mirage© El Djerid (UMED) is the first ultra-trail race organized in the magnificent Tunisian Sahara desert. The event takes place once a year in the Djerid region.

Three distances are offered: 100 km, 50 km, and 25 km. These three single-stage races take runners across a wide variety of terrain: fine sand, dunes, rocks, dry riverbeds, oases... 

The event is open to all athletes, from professional ultra-runners to ultra-running enthusiasts.

100 KM SAHARA ULTRAMARATHON

October 20 to November 1, 2026

An ultra-marathon for hardened athletes seeking a challenging but not impossible test. The Grand Erg Oriental serves as the backdrop, with its tracks and dunes, and the finish line overlooks Mount Tembaine. Push your limits during unique night stages, which add an exciting new dimension to this race under a starry sky. Comprehensive and constant support is provided on-site: dedicated medical service, race assistance with quads and 4x4 vehicles, multiple water points, and a base camp at the 60-kilometer mark.

MARATHON COMAR

Late November 2026

The Comar Marathon is an emblematic event that winds through the Tunisian capital and its surroundings. Beyond the physical effort, this race offers a true cultural journey, through the vibrant city of Tunis (whose Medina is a UNESCO World Heritage site), the serenity of the surrounding hills, and the rich cultural heritage of Carthage (also a UNESCO World Heritage site).

Three race formats are offered:

  • Marathon + 41 kilometers
  • Half marathon + 20 km
  • Open race for everyone (5 km)

Carthage Theatre Days (JTC)

November 2026

International festival dedicated to theater in Africa and the Arab world. It presents contemporary and experimental plays, with exchanges between troupes and artists. 

The 2026 edition is normally scheduled for the end of November, but the exact dates are yet to be officially announced by the organizers.

ENDURANCE TRAIL CHALLENGE

December 19 & 20, 2026

After 5 races held in the magnificent region of Sidi Mashraq, this 6e The edition will change scenery and will take place in the forests and mountains of Sajnan, in the north of Tunisia.  

Carthage Film Days (JCC)

December 2026

Major festival of African and Arab cinema. It features screenings, competitions, and professional meetings, and awards the best films with the Tanit.

The 2026 edition is normally scheduled for December. (Exact dates to be officially announced by the organizers).
