Right on the road to vacation! 1h15 south-west of Barcelona and ten minutes from the seaside resort of Salou. Travellers from the north, many of whom take the A9 to reach their holiday destinations, would be wrong not to leave the freeway for a day, or better still, a holiday, in Europe's sunniest leisure park. The Spanish leisure complex makes the most of its excellent climate and diversified offer to create a genuine vacation destination.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

30 minutes before the others!<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

A good start. Arrival in the park is not conditional on arrival at the hotel, if you're staying on site: visitors can go there as soon as they arrive after leaving their luggage free of charge in the locker room, and receive a message when their room is available, from 3pm onwards. For departure, the same principle applies: you can enjoy the parks until closing time and then collect your luggage. The adventure begins immediately.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As a special treat for those staying at one of the park's six hotels, they can enter the park 30 minutes before the others! Time enough to grab the most coveted machines.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

PortAventura Park: 6 worlds, 42 attractions, 40 shows<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

And 44 boutiques and 47 catering outlets! And a further 20,000m2 of event and incentive space. Seasons punctuated by festive celebrations, as the Spaniards like them - we had a Halloween worthy of a horror film. And a series of titles and certifications that make it, among others, Europe's most committed leisure park in terms of sustainability and environmental protection: the first carbon-neutral complex and one of the largest photovoltaic farms in the European vacation resort sector.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

PortAventura World is divided into six themed worlds. In all, some 50 attractions are in the tradition of zoned theme parks, ranging from duck fishing to the most impressive roller coasters and indoor virtual tours. Each area offers entertainment and shows for all ages (some forty shows a day), a range of themed restaurants and, systematically, a popular flagship attraction, allowing visitors to spread out according to the number of visitors. For, of course, the thrill rides are the most coveted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Six territories on 52 hectares<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Visit Mediterranean<\/strong>, The Furious Baco, for example, offers some of the fastest acceleration in the world. No loops, but plenty of jolts. It's also the setting for the shows on the lake and most of the stores.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Visit Polynesia<\/strong>, You'll get wet for the Tutuku Splash and be happily introduced to Polynesian rituals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Visit China<\/strong>, We buy a fast pass to go faster on the thrilling rides, the 78m-high Shambhala and the master of loops: Dragon Khan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Visit Mexico<\/strong>, The Hurakan Condor freefall is 100m high, with a freefall of 86m, making the shaking El Diablo Tren de la Mina look like a walk on rails.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Visit Far West<\/strong>, Then we board the Stampida train and take a dip in Grand Canyon Rapids or Silver River Flume. Then we line up for an indoor attraction: Uncharted, inspired by the film of the same name. A hectic virtual adventure in a mining depot in the company of actor Tom Holland.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Finally, at Sesamo Aventura<\/strong>, The little ones get their make-up done, and we breathe a sigh of relief into the sweet world of Sesame Street.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ferrari Land: collateral tribute<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The park dedicated to the famous Italian brand wouldn't stand up on its own, and it's a godsend for the car. Let's just say it's the icing on the cake, an impressive 112m-high coaster that accelerates from 0 to 180 km\/h in just 5 seconds. Despite these records, thrill-seekers agree that Ferrari Land is not the only reason to visit, especially if you have to queue.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Other attractions include the delightful Flying Dreams, which takes visitors above racing cars on the world's most beautiful roads. The park also features pizzerias alongside a mini replica of the Doge's Palace, and Enzo Ferrari overshadows the reproduction of Michelangelo's David.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

PortAventura Caribe Aquatic Park: the reward<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Although some hotels have swimming pools, in summer the 50,000m2 of indoor and outdoor attractions, pools and slides in a tropical setting are highly sought-after. It's possible to buy a ticket just for this park, or combined tickets.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

30 years and counting<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

No new thrills to celebrate this anniversary, but revisited and redecorated worlds, more elaborate catering menus, a new Birthday Parade<\/strong> to replace the daily parade with new floats, the Viaje Fascinante<\/strong>, a show featuring singing and dancing acrobats from the park's explored continents. And best of all, FiestAventura<\/strong>, The Gran Teatro Imperial is the setting for a total show, running nightly until September 6: sound and light, water and fire. A word of advice: don't leave before the end of the show and the flight of 300 drones.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A new restaurant has appeared. A sports bar in which every dish, every screen and every product in the shopping area is associated with a sport - obviously soccer, but also other sporting competitions broadcast live or offered via virtual installations. LaLiga TwentyNine's is located at the entrance to the park and is accessible without having to buy a ticket.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Staying on site is already a party!<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

One of PortAventura World's major assets is its integrated accommodation offering, with six hotels within the complex. Each has its own identity and ambience:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

PortAventura 4* \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The destination's first hotel, with 500 well-concealed rooms, it backs onto the Mediterranean world - you can hear the cries of the Furious Baco passengers, and that's a plus, as it's the most coveted attraction. It has the look and feel of a Greek village, with two swimming pools, one of which is magnificent and circulates around the various buildings. It's just a few minutes from the Convention Center, which can host events for up to 6,000 people.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Gold River 4* \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The 500-room hotel offers direct access to the world of the Wild West, with a range of packages, swimming pools and seasonal entertainment. It's an overpriced 4* (three meal services limited in time and large but basic rooms with some minor functional problems during our visit), but with good value for money.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Colorado Creek 4*\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Also located in the Far West district, it has 260 rooms and operates like the Gold River. Its mountain theme makes it an ideal choice in winter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Lucy's Mansion 5*\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

With its Victorian mansion look, it's the group's flagship, with just 30 larger rooms and more personalized, \u00e0 la carte service. Its intimacy and upscale offering make it an ideal choice for those seeking greater comfort.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Caribe PortAventura 4*\u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

With its 500 rooms spread over fourteen buildings, it manages the feat of not making its size felt. Each room, from standard to Deluxe Superior, has a small terrace and a view of the gardens and\/or the swimming pool that runs through part of them. Palm trees, sandy beaches and an exotic ambience make it a favorite for summer visitors. It's also the only one with a spa.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

El Paso 4*\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

It's the only one to offer an all-in formula in addition to the other options. Its 500 rooms are set in small haciendas surrounded by lush vegetation, and its swimming pool, with its sandy beach and lawn, is as attractive as that of the Caribe.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Preparing your visit<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The 115-hectare complex can accommodate up to 36,000 people, but the organization of the attractions and their distribution across the various airy zones help to keep visitor traffic flowing smoothly. A solo queue has recently been opened at the most popular attractions, and giant screens announce the times.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ideally, of course, you should avoid Sundays and opt for weekdays or even Saturdays, when holidaymakers are on the move. If your schedule is flexible, PortAventura World's offers, discounts and promotions are unbeatable for the quality of their services. Even if you add a plane ticket, the comparison with some other European parks is largely to its advantage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The PortAventura World app on your mobile lets you organize your visit by indicating your preferences. The app displays attraction waiting times, allows you to calculate your itinerary, reserve a table at one of the twenty or so restaurants and snack bars spread throughout the worlds (with a particularly varied offer and very reasonable prices), or access your reservations and offers in real time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

- PortAventura World is 6 kilometers from the seaside resort of Salou - exit 35 on the A9 freeway. Reus airport is 7 kilometers away and Barcelona 90 kilometers. The park is open from April 4 to January 6, and there's no better season. Carnival, Halloween, Christmas and San Juan are all celebrated here, and summer is obviously the busiest.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

- Pay parking is available, but the huge avenue Alcade P\u00e8re Molas, 200m away, offers a multitude of free spaces. A special area is reserved for camper vans. <\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

- Everything can be booked online, through your travel agent or on site. Buy your tickets and Fast Passes in advance, and keep an eye out for regularly changing special offers. Choose hotels inside the complex, especially if you're not staying for several days.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

- Use the app to plan your visit to the parks.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

- No need to worry about the weather. The only thing you need is sun cream and a hat.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n
