Antarctica

Journey to the ends of the earth

This is a unique trip, an adventure above all, where the unexpected is always on the agenda. It's important to know: there's a before and an after to Antarctica! After all, you don't come back from a trip like this quite the same.

The ticket to pay is a high probability of experiencing two days of storms in the Drake Passage. But then there's the constant wonder of the calm, translucent and sometimes completely mirror-smooth waters of the Antarctic Peninsula, the icebergs that change from immaculate white to almost fluorescent blue, the mountains that are reflected in the icy waters of Gerlache Strait and the South Shetland Islands, and, above all, the fascinating and shy fauna that can be found in great numbers on the shores, on the ice or in the sea. Because here, you can get closer to the animals than anywhere else (except the Galapagos). When it's not they who are looking for contact with you...

Antarctica

Ideal for

Cruising, wildlife watching, adventure, photography, trekking.

Did you know?

Antarctica contains 90% of our planet's fresh water, and the ice cap has an average thickness of 1870 m, reaching 4776 m at certain points!

The must-haves

  1. A zodiac excursion among the icebergs.
  2. Have your postcards stamped and cancelled at Port Lockroy, the continent's only post office.
  3. Sit back and peacefully observe the unique wildlife of this continent.
  4. Cross Deception Island and bathe in its hot springs.
  5. Take advantage of this isolation from the telephone and Internet networks for a total «disconnection».

Between us

  1. During the austral summer, temperatures often rise above freezing. Sunburn and dehydration are quite possible.
  2. Stricter rules adopted in recent years limit the number of ships that can take passengers to Antarctica. And only one boat at a time is allowed on each site. No, you won't see many people here.
  3. Antarctica is fragile. Food and cigarettes are prohibited on land. Better still, you must disinfect your boots or shoes before each landing.
  4. If we are indeed on the most icy continent on the planet, we record an average of less than 20 cm of snow per year! Some dry valleys (Victoria Land and Princess Elisabeth Land) have received no precipitation for thousands of years!

When to go?

November to February during the austral summer. And don't forget that in Antarctica, you can experience all four seasons in a single day!

Packing

«There's no such thing as bad weather, only bad clothes» is a Norwegian proverb that takes on its full meaning in Antarctica. Choose technical clothing with several layers that can be removed according to the temperature. The same goes for excellent lined boots with raised soles. And don't forget a complete, personalized first-aid kit.
